Why roofing search is different
Roofing enquiries are dominated by urgency. A homeowner with a leak is not researching for three weeks — they search, look at the top three results, and call one or two. That compresses the entire funnel into a single session.
Three consequences follow. Map Pack position matters more than in almost any other trade, because urgent searchers rarely scroll. Review recency carries unusual weight, since a homeowner letting a stranger onto their roof wants recent evidence of reliability. And phone visibility beats form design — most urgent roofing enquiries are calls, not form fills.
What actually moves roofing rankings
Service-plus-area pages. "Flat roof repair in Reading" is a different query from "roofer Reading" and needs its own page. Most roofing sites have one services page trying to rank for everything.
A complete Google Business Profile. Correct primary category, every service listed individually, photos of actual jobs with location data, and posts. Most roofing profiles are half-filled.
Steady recent reviews. Twenty reviews from this year beats eighty from four years ago. Roofing customers filter for recency because roofing crews change.
Emergency and storm content. Storm damage searches spike unpredictably and convert at very high rates. Businesses that already have the page ranking capture it; nobody publishes fast enough to catch a storm reactively.
Roofing and lead networks
Roofing sits at the top of the price range on Thumbtack, Angi, Checkatrade and Bark, because job values are high and competition is intense. Reported costs commonly reach the upper end of those platforms' ranges, and the same enquiry is typically sold to three or four roofers.
The economics only work when win rates stay high. As more roofers join a given area, win rates fall and cost per job rises — while the platform's price does not. That is the structural problem: your cost goes up as competition increases, and you have no lever to pull.

How long it takes for a roofing company
Google Business Profile improvements can shift Map Pack position within two to four weeks. Service-plus-area pages typically start ranking in six to ten weeks. Enough enquiry volume to start reducing lead network spend usually arrives around month four.
Seasonality matters more than in most trades. Starting work in late summer means the foundations are in place before autumn and winter storm season, when search volume peaks. Starting in January means paying for four months of groundwork before the demand arrives.
