HVAC has two customers, not one
HVAC search splits into two audiences that behave nothing alike. Emergency repair customers have no heating in January or no cooling in July. They search on a phone, call the first credible result, and price barely matters. Planned replacement customers are researching a system costing thousands, comparing three or four companies over several weeks, reading about efficiency ratings and finance options.
Most HVAC websites are built for one and lose the other. Emergency pages need speed, phone prominence and area coverage. Replacement pages need depth, comparison content, finance information and evidence of workmanship. They should be separate pages targeting separate queries.
Working with the seasonal curve
HVAC search volume roughly doubles in the first cold snap and again in the first heatwave. The mistake most companies make is starting marketing when demand arrives — by which point rankings take eight weeks to build and the season is over.
The correct rhythm is counter-seasonal. Build heating content in late summer so it ranks by the first cold week. Build cooling content in late winter. Run maintenance-plan campaigns in the shoulder months when competitors go quiet and click costs fall.
Maintenance plans deserve particular attention: they generate recurring revenue, smooth the seasonal cash flow, and the searches for them are almost uncontested compared with repair terms.
What moves HVAC rankings
Separate pages by system and intent. "Boiler repair [town]", "heat pump installation [town]", "air conditioning installation [town]" are distinct searches with distinct value. One "services" page competes for none properly.
Brand and model pages. Customers search for specific manufacturers. Pages covering the brands you install and service capture research-stage traffic competitors ignore.
Certifications in structured data. Gas Safe, F-Gas, MCS or the local equivalent should be machine-readable, not just a logo image in the footer.
Efficiency and running-cost content. Replacement customers search costs and savings before they search companies. Answering those questions is how you enter the consideration set early.
Timing an HVAC campaign
Emergency repair terms typically rank within six to ten weeks. Installation and replacement terms take three to five months because competition is heavier and content requirements greater.
Start counter-seasonally. Beginning heating work in August means rankings are established before the first cold week rather than three months into the season.
